Faculty Guide for Using Films on Demand in Courses

Stimulate and reinforce in-class lectures or introduce a new topic using streaming films from Holt Library’s Films on Demand resource containing thousands of Thousands of high-quality videos and documentaries: PBS, Ken Burns documentaries, Masterpiece Theater, HBO documentaries, Scientific American, American Experience.

Did you know Films on Demand has a new quiz feature? You can embed quizzes inside the videos students watch to assess student learning and engagement. For more about this quiz feature watch this training webinar on creating quizzes or the step-by-step tutorial from Films on Demand. 

To create an instructor account, login to Films on Demand from Holt Library and click on the “Your Profile” link in the upper right hand corner. 

Instructors who login from a personal account from the Holt Library's Films on Demand database can:

  • Create film embedded quizzes
  • Embed persistent and authenticated video clips into Moodle
  • Create and share playlists using premade clips, full videos
  • Save favorite videos to a personal folder
  • Add a personalized video introduction to any playlist to provide an overview or give context

To Embed Films on Demand Videos in a course

1. Click on Films on Demand from the Library website

2. Login to your Free Personal Account or Create a Free Personal Account if you don't have one. 

3. Once you have found the film you want, click on the "share" icon.

4. In the Share To box,  Click on the "Embed/Link" option and either copy the link or copy the embed code to link to or embed into your Moodle course. You may change the embed video size prior to copying the embed code and the embed code will change the size of the view player that you embed in Moodle.
