This film presents the premiere of the stage adaption of the award winning film, The Play Within, an emotional and issue-focused fictional drama based on the lives of two real people—Matthew Shepard and Tyler Clementi—and their tragic, untimely deaths. After the play, an audience talkback allows for an exploration of this experience. This is followed by a wide-ranging discussion by psychiatrists, social service providers, clergy, and others who illuminate the history, evolution, and current circumstances that face the LGBTQ community.

Gender should be the least remarkable thing about someone, but transgender people are still too often misunderstood. To help those who are scared to ask questions or nervous about saying the wrong thing, Jackson Bird shares a few ways to think about trans issues. And in this funny, frank talk, he clears up a few misconceptions about pronouns, transitioning, bathrooms and more.

Staying active is important to America’s elderly, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the struggle for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights. This program sheds light on the unique challenges faced by aging members of the LGBT community. Featuring remarkable elders who describe the obstacles, injustices, and victories that have shaped their lives, the film also presents coast-to-coast interviews with gerontologists, social service workers, attorneys, senior strategists from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and a host of other figures.
