This text focuses on the critical issue of mental health among community college students, which is more pronounced than in four-year institutions. The pandemic has further exacerbated mental health concerns, negatively impacting student success in areas like course persistence, GPA, and credential completion. While research on this topic is growing, more work is needed to fully understand its scope. The book by Latz explores this issue by first summarizing what is already known and then presenting data from interviews with community college faculty, shedding light on their perspectives of students who face mental health challenges. The book concludes with recommendations for community college leaders on how to better support these students.

This text discusses the challenges Latino male students face in universities, particularly around issues of cultural identity (such as Machismo), masculinity, and exclusion. The political climate and increasing division in society exacerbate the marginalization of these students, who often experience racism, microaggressions, and oppression. The slow progress in inclusion advocacy and lack of empirical research on the Latino male experience of exclusion highlight the need for a framework to better support their cultural competence and inclusion. The proposed textbook aims to address these issues by offering strategies for cultural inclusion, social justice, and advocacy for Latino males. It will include readings that explore topics like Machismo, identity, values, and the experiences of exclusion, providing counselor educators and student affairs professionals with valuable tools to foster connectedness and inclusivity for Latino male students in higher education.
