·  How do I pay for printouts?

  • For students, printing assignments and homework are included in your activity fee. You have already paid.
  • For anyone printing personal documents: please do not print more than 10 pages per session per day.

  Do you have a color printer? How about oversize paper, or cardstock?

  • No, sorry. Campus printers only supply black ink. We only provide letter-size paper (8 1/2" x 11").

·  Can I make copies at the library?

  • Yes, you can make copies. Schoolwork copies are included in your activity fee.

·  Can I scan to email?

  • Yes, you can scan to an SCC email address only.

·  I don't have Word on my computer. Can you help?

   Can I print from my laptop?

  • No, sorry. But you can email an item to yourself (or save it to disk), then use a workstation computer to print to the shared printer.
  • How do I access Wi-fi?
    • Simply open your laptop or device to allow Wi-fi connection. Wireless access is available campus-wide and should automatically pop up.
  • Is Microsoft Office on the library computers?
    • Yes.
  • Can I print from my laptop?
    • No, sorry. But you can email an item to yourself or save it to disk, then print from a library computer.
  • Do study rooms have computers I can use?
    • Yes. .

 

Do I need a library card to check out books, magazines, or DVDs?

  • Yes. Your SCC student ID will be used to create your Holt Library account.

How do I get an SCC ID card?

  • The cashier's office in Balsam, Jackson Campus, will make your ID card. This is easiest to do at Orientation.

Do I need a library card to use online databases, articles, journals, e-books, and audiobooks?

  • No. You can access thousands of materials by logging in to your MySCC account and choosing the "Library" tab on the left of the page.

How long can I keep the books I check out?

  • Books check out for 4 weeks, and we can renew one time for you (4 more weeks).

How do I know when my books are due?

  • We stamp the due date in the back of the book. If the book becomes overdue, you will receive an email reminder. Please check your SCC email account regularly for this and other important school information.

How many books can I check out at one time?

  • Students can check out up to 8 items at a time. Faculty and staff can check out an unlimited number of items.

Can I check out magazines and journals?

  • Yes. Print magazines and journals check out for 1 week. Also, use Flipster in our databases with your MySCC login to access hundreds of magazine titles.

Do you have audiobooks I can check out?

  • We don't have audiobooks in physical form to check out, but you can find these in the databases. Log in to MySCC and use the OneSearch or All Books search boxes.

Can I check out videos?

  • We have DVDs for checkout, but we have hundreds of streaming videos in the databases. Use the Streaming Videos search box on the library's home page after you've logged in to MySCC.

How do I check my Holt Library account online? Can I place a hold on a book by myself?

  • Your user name/number is the barcode on the back of your SCC ID card.
  • Your PIN is set to the last 4 digits of your student ID number (students) or your Colleague ID (staff and faculty).
  • You can renew online, place holds, and check to see when your items are due.

     A note about holds and interlibrary loan: you can place a hold on a book held by another library by yourself. However, library staff can attempt to get your item faster if we place the hold for you. Please call, email, or chat if we can help you with this free service!

How can I get to databases and articles from the Macon or Swain campuses (or from home)?

  • Log in to MySCC and choose the "Library" tab at the top of the page.

Do I need a special password to read articles from off-campus?

  • No. Your MySCC login is the only password you will need.

Can you deliver books to me at Macon or Swain campuses?

  • Yes. If you have a Holt Library account in good standing, we can deliver materials to your campus. Plan time for delivery.
  • You can return your books through the campus receptionist. The receptionist will mail books back to us.

 

Do you have study rooms if I want to study alone?

  • Yes, we have 2 small study rooms that would provide privacy. There are also Silent Study carrels along the back wall of the library.

What if I want to study with a group?

  • We have 2 larger study rooms that can be used for projects or for study groups.

Can I make a reservation for a room?

  • Yes. Call 828.339.4288, email library@southwesterncc.edu, or come by the front desk.
  • Study areas are first come, first served.

Is food allowed in study rooms?

  • Yes. Just be neat, keep food and drink away from keyboards and equipment, and clean up after yourself. Please use our recycling bins.

 

Is there plenty of parking?

  • Yes, there are plenty of spaces to park. You can park beside, behind, or in front of the library with your SCC parking sticker.

Are snacks allowed in the library?

  • Yes. Please do not bring plates of food, but packaged snacks and drinks are fine. Just be careful of keyboards and equipment, clean up after yourself, and please use our recycling bins.

Can I get snacks there while I'm studying?

  • Yes. Cafe Diem has vending machines. Please bring correct change; library cannot make change for you.
  • Cafe 64 (in Founders Hall) will be open during lunchtime hours. Cafe 64 offers meals and hot foods.

Do you have a microwave so I can heat up my lunch?

  • No, we do not. Oaks Hall provides a microwave in the student lounge area on the 2nd floor.

Do you have restrooms at Holt Library?

  • Yes, our 2 restrooms are gender-neutral. Anyone can use either one. All we ask is that you wash your hands!

Do you have a water fountain?

  • Yes, in the back hallway.

What if Holt Library doesn't have the book I need?

  • We can borrow books from other libraries for you.

What does this cost?

  • It's a free service!

How do I ask for a book?

  • Call (828.339.4288) or email us (library@southwesterncc.edu).

               You'll need to have as much info about the book as you can (title, author, edition, ISBN, etc. OR we can help you find this information).

What if I can't bring the book back on time?

  • Let us know at once! We would have to get in touch with the library that loaned you the book. It is important that our library follow rules for borrowing so that we can continue to offer this service to you.

Holt Library is a safe zone. Anyone can talk with us and expect privacy, respect, and support.
